Dr. Maclin went to Auburn University where she earned a bachelor of science in BioMedical Sciences. She then went to complete her dental school at Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC It was here under the guidance of her mentor, the late Dr. Carlos Salinas that she was first exposed to cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary team. During this time she began to understand that her heart and her passion was in the area of dentistry that involved cleft/craniofacial differences and special needs patients. To further her training, she saught out pediatric residency programs that had a significant hands on cleft and craniofacial component to the curriculum. For this reason she was excited to match at NYU Langone’s in Providence, RI residency site. Here she was fortunate enough to be a part of the cleft team at Hasbro Children’s hospital and to learn directly from the creator of NAM, Dr. Barry Grayson. Dr. Maclin is now the pediatric dental faculty at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN. Here practice her consists mainly of patients that have medical complexities of all kinds. For fun Dr. Maclin loves to travel. However since travel is not something that can be done in the way that it used to, when not working she can usually be found gardening, doing yoga and spending time with her family.
This is GREAT information for primary teachers who may have students in various stages of lip of palate repair. Thank you so much!
